Malek has worked in the field of human rights and development for the past 16 years, mainly in the areas of capacity building of civil society and state institutions, advocacy for human rights values, coordination of human rights defenders, media and human rights, law reform based on human rights principles, promotion of human rights law in the national legislations, reporting and monitoring of human rights and harmonisation of international law in national legislation with focus on human rights.

Malek holds a Master of International Law Can. Jur and has held a number of different positions at the Danish Institute for Human Rights between 1999 and 2015, lastly as the Senior Advisor to DIHR’s international programmes. He has been in charge of developing the Civil Society and Human Rights Network in Afghanistan; human rights radio ”The Voice” in Afghanistan and Cambodia; human rights journal “Angara” in Afghanistan; Human Rights Advisory Board in Afghanistan; and supporting the partners in developing Access to Information law, Media Law and Elimination of Domestic Violence Law against Women in Afghanistan. Furthermore, he has been deeply involved in cooperation on strategic development of national human rights institution in Afghanistan, developing of state report on Convention against Torture, first and second Universal Periodic Reports to UN, and developing of strategic action plan of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan in the fields of human rights. In addition, Malek was one of the main facilitators of human rights dialogue between Iran and Denmark.
