Review of Growth and Employment Promotion Programme in Nepal (UNNATI)
The Danish Government has supported for the Inclusive Growth Programme in Nepal called UNNATI with DKK 400 million (approximately USD 70 million) for a five-year period commencing January 2014.
The key priority of the programme is to strengthen market-based growth with a focus on reducing poverty and improving living standards.
The strategic focus of the programme is on private sector development in compliance with the government of Nepal and Danida’s strategies. The public sector is expected to be a key partner and to play a critical role in setting and implementing national objectives, policies and plans; for providing the regulatory frameworks; for supporting infrastructure development; and for creating an enabling environment for the private sector to contribute efficiently and effectively to inclusive growth.
UNNATI comprises three components:
1) the Value Chain Component;
2) the Infrastructure Component; and
3) the Enabling Environment Component.
The geographic focus of the programme is in the seven districts of Eastern Nepal - Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Terhathum and Sankhuwasabha. Three value chains - orthodox tea, ginger and dairy are selected for the programme.
