Export Consortia
It is widely acknowledged that firms are able to increase their export potential by leveraging on networks or collaborative strategies. Export consortia represent specific network arrangements, based on domestic collaborative relationships, which are well-suited to the characteristics of SMEs. Export consortia generally involve SMEs which are characterized by complementary and mutually-enhancing offers, and may be sales- or promotion-oriented. Consortia of SMEs can facilitate solutions to export problems and enable the loosening of the constraints related to the investments needed to penetrate foreign markets.
The specific content discussion of export consortia will be guided by the member’s information needs and will continuously be updated and adjusted accordingly.
Export consortia will help companies:
- Increase export
- Increase sales
- Gain market access
- Gain product approval
- Develop new products
- Localize marketing
The export consortia focus on answering questions such as “how to gain competitive advantage in Indonesia through CSR.
Directions, especially the strategic kind are difficult, for most, to identify. If strategic direction adequately addresses financial, marketing, human resource, partner selection, governance and other issues then SMEs are more likely to succeed in their efforts of internationalisation. Such strategy is however difficult to execute singlehandedly for most SMEs and past experience shows higher success rates when companies collaborate.
Nordic Consulting Group (NCG) is in a unique position to facilitate the creation of export consortia of Danish companies in our countries of expertise because, on the one hand, we have substantial operating experience in the developing world through our international consultants and senior partners. On the other hand NCG benefits from its presence in Denmark and knowledge of SMEs from several sectors (click here for list of sectors). The combination of local context experience, knowledge of sectors and geographic proximity to consortium partners enables NCG to competently manage export consortia.
NCG acts as a secretariat for prospect consortia and maintain the following activities in order to ensure
- Identification of complementary SMEs
- Facilitation of consortium meetings
- Identification of local partners if and when necessary
- Facilitate business plan development process
- Arrange stakeholder meetings
- Identify opportunities for financing, match financing
- Facilitate grant and other application processes
- Investigate import barriers for each consortium
- Provide analysis of level of corruption in specific sectors
- Provide recommendations and analysis of legal and judicial system
- Provide information and recommendations related to relevant public authorities
Danida Business Partnership Programme
When internationalizing many important choices are to be made and making the right (or wrong) decision can profoundly influence a firm’s strategic moves. One of the important strategic choices is finding the right partner to team up with. The right partner or alliance aids rapid internationalization and may increase your success as you through your partner will be able to deal with matters such as political/legal/regulatory issues, marketing strategy/marketing mix, distribution and logistics issues etc. Therefore it is necessary to carefully select an outside partner and approach third party partners slowly and systematically.
The Danida Business Partnerships programme provides financial support for the preparation and implementation of commercially oriented partnerships between Danish companies and a wide array of local partners. NCG provides consultancy services on Danida Business Partnerships based on experiences from numerous projects and programmes. NCG advises on formalities required in the screening process and ensures a successful programme application based on expert knowledge and experience in these areas. We provide in-depth strategy advice and business case development for the Danida Business Partnerships Programme. We consult private companies on how to integrate CSR into their venture, delineate the environmental and technical concerns involved with the product or service and how these could be mitigated.
NCG has a wide geographical scope and is able to assist companies in the majority of the Danida Priority Countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Indonesia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam.
